Studies of twins helps us understand the relationship between genes and if they are being shared between family members. If twins are sharing a certain set of genes, they will behave similarly and therefore show similar traits. The studies of twins can show the correlation of many different statistics with similar traits. From this, scientists can determine which traits make us behave the way we do.
