Question Fourteen:

When looking at the Wilson School District and its decision to start a foreign language in the sixth grade, one could say that the district should start the program earlier. Beginning a foreign language earlier would allow for a more instruction, which increases the likelihood that a child could achieve higher learning skills in a language. In other words, if a child does not start studying a language until junior high, they may only have the opportunity to study a language for minimum years before graduating. If a child starts years earlier, he or she has the opportunity to master the complex grammar structures and achieve true proficiency.

Jean Piaget, an important psychologists, made some arguments for beginning the study of a foreign language at an early age. Children tend to be more open-minded in elementary school than they are at a later age. They are more interested in learning about the world around them and more enthusiastic about different cultures, which helps lead to a more positive attitude, particularly toward the culture and country whose language they study. The entire study of a foreign language serves as a catalyst for new thinking.
